Conditional simple

Complete forms, irregular stems, polite requests, present hypotheses, and future in the past.

Add one set of endings to the infinitive

The simple conditional presents a result dependent on a condition, softens requests, and describes a future viewed from a past point. Regular verbs keep the full infinitive; irregular verbs use the same shortened stems as the future.

Advice, probability, and journalistic distance

The conditional can soften advice—Hauries de descansar—or present unconfirmed information in formal media: L’acord afectaria unes mil persones. In careful writing, use this “reported” conditional only when the source or uncertainty is clear.
